2017  Rules

Flags:

  1. 1. Green – Start the race
  2. 2. Yellow – Caution, slow down and form a single file line behind the leader (no passing)
  3. 3. Yellow and White – the field is not sufficiently bunched up for the restart
  4. 4. Red – Race has stopped. All drivers stop in your place.
  5. 5. Black – when rolled up, it is a warning to the driver. When open it means the driver must exit the track immediately.
  6. 6. White and Green crossed – halfway point of the race
  7. 7. Blue with yellow stripe – slower racer needs to move to the top of the track to let the faster racers pass by
  8. 8. White – one lap to go
  9. 9. Checkered – race has ended

The pole setter will start the race and restarts in all classes except kids stock. No racing back to the flag.

Rules for all classes, including Safety Rules:

  1. 1. Long pants, long sleeved shirts, neck brace, helmet and boots (or laced up shoes) must be worn while racing. Gloves are optional.
  2. 2. No one is allowed on the track while race or practice is in progress.
  3. 3. No children in the pits, unless accompanied by an adult.
  4. 4. No alcohol or drugs permitted. If use is suspected, officials will investigate accordingly.
  5. 5. No fighting or use of profanity to other drivers or officials.
  6. 6. All drivers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who must sign a release form.
  7. 7. Inexperienced drivers must pass a driving test conducted by the officials.
  8. 8. If you have a complaint of disagreement, please find and official to discuss it. Any problems arising will be addressed as soon as possible.
  9. 9. Do not block exit or entrance gates.
  10. 10. We stand behind our flagman 100%. If you don’t like a call that the flagman or track official makes, please see an official during intermission or after the last race. DO NOT GO TO THE FLAGSTAND. If you or someone in your defense goes to the flag stand you will lose your points for that race.
  11. 11. No speeding in the pit area.
  12. 12. Entry fee is $3 per driver, limited 2 classes per mower.

Points System:

1st place is 8 points

2nd place is 6 points

3rd place is 4 points

4th through last place is 2 points

You will receive 2 show up points for each class at the time you sign in (so if you race the heat and don’t make it to the main you will receive 2 show up points)

In the event of a tie at the end of the season, the position will be determined by the amount of wins throughout the season.

Operation Rules:

  1. 1. Drivers are allowed 3 minutes for breakdowns on the track.
  2. 2. Drivers are allowed 2 unassisted cautions. If you breakdown for a 3rd time during the same race, you will be black flagged, to leave the track.
  3. 3. If you leave the track, you may not return for the remainder of the race.
  4. 4. If you are not in prestaging for your race, you will forfeit your spot and go to the rear. The only exception is if you run back to back races.
  5. 5. All drivers must attend the drivers meeting.
  6. 6. No working on mowers or minis until they have stopped and track is under caution.

Mower rules for a classes except kids stock:

  1. 1. All mowers must have visible numbers on both sides of the hood.
  2. 2. All mowers must run pump fuel, so no alcohol or methanol.
  3. 3. All mowers must have rear fenders. Fenders must cover at least halfway across the rear tire.
  4. 4. All mowers must run lawnmower tires. (If you run Hoosiers you must run in the open class)
  5. 5. Tires and wheels must be the same size on both sides of the either axle.
  6. 6. Tires must have tubes or bead lock wheels
  7. 7. Wheels must be made of steel or aluminum
  8. 8. Mowers must have a working kill switch.
  9. 9. Mowers must have onboard starting system that is in working order.
  10. 10. Mowers must be operated by a push button starter or key starter switch.
  11. 11. Mowers must have air filters.
  12. 12. All positive terminals must be covered and the battery must be secure.
  13. 13. Mowers must be equipped with foot break.
  14. 14. Mowers must have working clutch and working breaks.
  15. 15. Centrifugal and angle boxes are allowed in all classes (except rookie and junior stock)
  16. 16. Hand or foot throttle is allowed in all classes (except rookie and junior stock)
  17. 17. Mowers must have footholds made so that the foot cannot be entangled.
  18. 18. Mowers must have lawnmower style seat. If you run 8 inch wheels, then the bottom of the seat pan must be no lower than 2 inches from the top of the rear wheel. If you run 6 inch tires, then the bottom of the seat pan must be flush or above the tire. Seats must also be on the center line of the frame of the mower. Open class and outlaw classes the seat does not matter.
  19. 19. Front axle and steering may be reinforced, fabricated or substituted.
  20. 20. Exhaust design is open and must turn away from the driver and competitors.
  21. 21. Driveline can be modified from the engine pulley to the rear wheels using lawnmower parts only in the stock classes.
  22. 22. You can run live axle except for the rookie class.
  23. 23. Engine must be vertical shaft engines manufactured for use in lawnmowers. (carb only)
  24. 24, Any transmissions with chains must have sufficient shields.
  25. 25. All mowers must have front and back bumpers. Bumpers are to be no wider than your tires and should include a riser with the center of both bumpers measuring 8 inches from the ground.
  26. 26. Anything not mentioned IS NOT ALLOWED.
  27. 27. ALL GRAY AREAS WITHIN THE RULES WILL BE SUBJECT TO INSPECTION. INSPECTORS AND OFFICALS WILL DETERMINE IF THEY ARE LEGAL FOR COMPETITION.
  28. 28. Mowers must use factory frame. Enhancements to the frame may be made within the scope of the rules.
  29. 29. Frame to ground clearance, front to back, should be a minimum of 2 inches.
  30. 30. Width for all mowers is 42 inches or less from outside sidewall to outside sidewall.
  31. 31. Length for all mowers must measure 60 inches or less center to center or the wheels.

Mower classes:

Kids stock (up to 8 years of age)

Rookie class (8 to 12 years of age)

Junior stock (12 to 16 years of age)

Stock single cylinder flathead – 28 ci

Stock single cylinder ohv – 28 ci

Stock twin cylinder – 44 ci max

Women’s powderpuff – any single cylinder, stock or modified

Modified Single cylinder flathead

Modified single cylinder ohv

Modified v-twin 14-16hp with a maximum of 34ci

Modified v-twin 18-23hp with a maximum of 44ci

Open Unlimited all modified mowers

*** Modified classes are allowed to run aftermarket parts and make modifications to the motor and rear of mowers.

Rookie class:

  1. 1. Engine must be a single cylinder flathead (11hp to 12.5hp)
  2. 2. No live axle
  3. 3. Transmissions must remain all working gears, including reverse.
  4. 4. Transmissions can be locked for safety purposes
  5. 5. Governor can be unhooked
  6. 6. Stator can be removed
  7. 7. Magnets can be removed
  8. 8. Carburetors must be stock for orientation of the motor. Any aftermarket air filters are allowed.
  9. 9. Must have stock cam with no modifications to the cam shaft is allowed. It may be subject to a cam lift test.
  10. 10. Advanced keys on flywheel are not allowed.
  11. 11. Valve keepers may be upgraded using stock OM parts and stock springs must be maintained.
  12. 12. May remove flywheel screen
  13. 13. Must run 16/750 by 8 inch lawnmower tires on the rear and 6 inch rims on the front of the mower.
  14. 14. Must maintain a gear ratio of 5 to 5.5 i.e., 5 engine rotations to 1 axle rotation in the highest gear
  15.  

Junior Stock:

  1. 1. Engine must be single cylinder flathead (11 – 12.5hp)
  2. 2. Transmissions must remain all working gears, including reverse.
  3. 3. Governor can be unhooked
  4. 4. Stator can be removed
  5. 5. Magnets can be removed
  6. 6. Carburetors must be stock for orientation of the motor. Any aftermarket air filters are allowed.
  7. 7. Must have stock cam with no modifications to the cam shaft is allowed. It may be subject to a cam lift test.

Modified v-twin 16-18hp: Ages 16 and up

Modified v-twin 18-23hp: Ages 16 and up

Legends: Ages 50 and older, engine must be vertical shaft

Open Unlimited: Ages 16 and up, all modified engines

 

Super Stock Mini Late Models: (Grasscar)

***Everything must be stock except for the following ....***

  1. Chassis
  2. *Can be made of square or round tubing built to Grasscar Specs.
  3. *Must have a "halo" and "Petty" bar
  4. *Must have a minimum of 3 bars on the left side
  5. *Must have a minimum of 1 bar on right side on outside of engine compartment
  6. *Must be rigid chassis.........no suspension
  7. *Wheelbase of 54" plus or minus 1/2"
  8. *48" max width across the tread of the tires
  9. Car Components/Specs
  10. *Minimum weight of 650 lbs. with driver. Any added weight must be within 3" of the seat.
  11. *Must run 5 point racing style, 2"-3" seat belts
  12. *Must have fire extinguisher within reach of the driver
  13. *All switches must be mounted on the left side, including a master disconnect. All must be within reach of the left door opening.
  14. *Must run window net on the left side
  15. *Wheels can be steel or aluminum
  16. *Tires must be 16" mower style tires and all 4 must be the same size. (16x7.50x8)
  17. *No softening of tires allowed. Subject to a punch test and have to read a minimum of 70.
  18. Motor Rules (Must run 40 or 44 ci Briggs & Stratton Intek V-Twin)
  19. Externals
  20. *Starters can be stock or high torque replacement
  21. *Flywheel can have magnets and charging system removed
  22. *Can use offset key or advance timing
  23. *Flywheel must be stock cast iron flywheel and no lightening of flywheel allowed.
  24. (As stated above, magnets can be removed. If we begin to see failures in stock flywheels, we may have to mandate aluminum)
  25. *Must run "stock" ignition coils
  26. Carb
  27. *Must run a stock carb and choke cannot be removed
  28. *Intake can be stock plastic or aluminum or Grasscar Spec inverted intake
  29. *Fuel can be any octane but must be gasoline only. No alcohol or methanol
  30. *Air cleaner can be aftermarket style but no forced air or turbo allowed
  31. Heads
  32. *Heads must be from a 40 or 44 ci engine. No 49 ci heads allowed
  33. *Porting and polishing of heads is allowed
  34. *Shaving of heads is allowed
  35. *Must run stock valves. No enlarging of valves allowed
  36. *No roller rockers. Must run stock rocker arms but can be re-enforced for strength.
  37. *Any valve spring can be run.
  38. *Push rods can be altered to fit where heads are cut. Can run all aluminum push rods.
  39. *Billet retainers on springs is allowed and suggested
  40. Internals
  41. *Must use stock crankshaft
  42. *Must use a stock lift cam with max lift being .250
  43. *Must run stock lifters. No rollers.
  44. *Must run stock rods
  45. *Must use Stock Briggs pistons
  46. *Must run stock oil pump. No external pumps or coolers.
  47.  

Protest rules for stock classes

  1. 1. $150.00 to protest a stock mini late model, $50.00 to protest a stock mower. Must have money in hand of an official within 5 min after the checkered flag falls for that race.
  2. 2. If found illegal you will forfeit your points for that race.
  3. 3. If you refuse the protest you will have to move up in class.
  4. 4. If you are found legal you will receive half of the protest fee and the other half will go to the track.
  5. 5. If you protest someone and they are illegal, you will receive half of the protest fee back and the other half will go to the track.
